Some people!!

What in gods name is the world coming to when at 10:30am a psychotic 40 something woman is running amock WITH A KNIFE outside my local corner shop!??!

I dont live in a city centre or in a run down over populated block of flats in the suburbs, I live in a relativly quiet estate on the Wolverhampton/Walsall border right on the edge of the Staffordshire greenbelt! So women with knives are a rarity and quite a shock to the system when you’ve only nipped out to fetch a bottle of milk and some Frosties that Jordan insisted he wanted for breakfast (regardless to the fact he’d alreday eaten best part of a loaf of bread having toast and jam).

So with the screeching banshee stabbing the phone box and threating anything that moved within 12 feet of her what was there to do other than bundle the blonde kid into the shop (he wanted to stand and watch?? WHAT is it with 6 year old courage?? Scared of the knife weilding maniac?? NO he wanted to stay and see what she was doing!!) Calm down the 3 teenage girls she’d just scared the life out of and call the police!

YES, I called the police NOT the shop owner who’s customers were being scared away, not the girls who she’d directly threatened not the man sitting on the car park and not even any of the residents watching it unfold from behind there net curtains.

And who said community spirit was dead!!

I hope to god that if anything were to happen to me, any of my friends or family someone more proactive than the people who were standing around or turning a blind eye today are about. I made it totally obvious to the woman that I was calling the police standing in the doorway to the shop on my mobile and looking directly at her seemed to make the point, and she disappeared into one of the flats across the road (the address of which I passed onto the operator too.).

Maybe if someone else had the presence of mind to report the erratic, threatening and potentially dangerous behaviour before I had got there she”d have disappeared sooner, Then maybe I wouldn’t now be having to try to explain to my son why the strange lady was “playing with a knife” in the street? Maybe the three young ladies who rushed into the shops close to tears wouldn’t now be paranoid to walk home on their own, maybe if the police had actually responded to my call instead of a “well is she off the streets now?? We’ll send someone around to “look into it”” other people would be more inclined to stop an dhelp/take action in these situations and maybe, just maybe, It’d send a message to the drunk/drugged up idiots out there that NO we wont tolerate this kind of behaviour on our doorsteps!!
