Today it came, and then some!!
It snowed for hours and in typical British fashion everything came to a stand still, 1 hour 45 minutes I had to wait for a bus to get home tonight, AND THEN it took another 45/50 minutes to complete a journey that usually takes 20. The queues at the station were MILES long, I did have my camera in my bag and contemplated taking some photos BUT I then realised to get a decent shot I’d have to loose my place in the queue so decided against it!
Never mind I did keep everyone in the bus station amused even if I couldn’t feel my toes anymore. We laughed and joked the hours and minutes away. The lady in front of me (Hello Bev!!) actually thanked me when she got off the bus for keeping her spirits up, her words went something along the lines of “Thank god you were there tonight I think I’d have cried if you weren’t, Thank you” and another man did ask “Why are you so happy?” my response….”No point in complaining about something I can do FUCK ALL about.”
It did help that I’d been bought a box of choclates today from another “satisfied customer” at Ernest Jones, and I shared them with the people at the front of the queue, who’d been waiting the longest with me! They were less impressed when I tried to instigate a sing along, Nobody appriciated my rendition of “Let it Snow” Not surprising considering the circumstances really!
One of the women/girls who I was joking with in the station sat next to me once we’d finally got onto the bus and as we pulled away from the stand we grinned and waved at all the unfortunates who there wasn’t enough room for on our bus, we couldn’t feel too sorry for them as they hadn’t been waiting as long as us AND there was another one coming along any minute…I’m sure!!
So bring it on Mother Nature give it your best, you cant break my spirit! Give me frost bite in my toes maybe….but I’ll still be smiling when they all drop off…
…oh and for anyone catching the 559 tomorrow night or any other bus at the adjacent stands come to think about it, you bring blankets, I’ll bring the whiskey and the Trivial Pursuit, if it carries on snowing like this we may be there a while!
I wasn’t surprised when you phoned to tell me you were entertaining half the bus station!
And it is fucking ridiculous that we have a tiny bit of snow and the entire transport system goes to shit! It’s about time someone did something about it – snow chains for all vehicles!
I wouldn’t have said it was HALF the bus station but a few maybe.
You know me couldn’t just stand there and keep my mouth shut that would have been too boring!!
It makes me laugh how we cope with snow, my uncle lives in North Yorkshire and hey regularly get up to 12″ of snow throughout the winter and they cope fine, so WHY does anywhere futher south than York find it impossible to cope with a few mm??
